United Airlines Revamps Dining and Lounges at Houston Airport

United Airlines has launched an impressive overhaul of its commercial and hospitality services at George Bush Intercontinental Airport's Terminal B North Concourse in Houston. The ambitious update encompasses over 105,000 square feet of retail and concession space, along with new culinary experiences.

Major Lounge and Art Investments

Centrally featured in this development is a state-of-the-art 54,000 square foot United Club lounge, touted as the largest airline lounge in the Americas. It opened its doors on October 22, marking a significant completion in United's $2.6 billion Terminal B Transformation Programme.

The lounge, located on the mezzanine level, accommodates 800 guests and comes with a stunning 1,350 square foot outdoor terrace, providing panoramic views of the airfield. Guests can enjoy two full-service bars, buffet stations, high-speed Wi-Fi, and numerous power outlets.

In addition to the lounge, a new public art initiative worth $16.8 million has been launched, showcasing a collection featuring mainly Texas-based artists. The design is inspired by local culture, history, and the bayou ecosystem.

Spotlight on Local and National Dining Options

The transformative project highlights not only Houston’s rich culinary landscape but also an impressive national food and beverage lineup. Local favorites such as B&B Butchers & Restaurant, Blood Bros. BBQ, and Katz Coffee will be joined by well-known national brands like Starbucks and Jamba.

This diverse array of dining options aims to complement the shopping experience at the airport, which features high-end duty-free stores and wellness services, including Be Relax Spa, offering massages and facials.

Enhancing Traveler Experience

To further enhance passenger convenience, United Airlines plans to incorporate an airport food ordering service via its mobile app later this year. Eligible travelers will have the ability to order meals and essentials from select outlets, either for pickup at their gate or direct delivery.

Additionally, the new concourse features a dedicated sensory room for individuals with autism and sensory sensitivities, showcasing United's commitment to inclusive travel.

CEO Scott Kirby has emphasized the importance of delivering a world-class experience to United's customers, stating, "I want our customers to start their vacation the moment they arrive at the airport. Terminal B North sets a new standard across the country." He also highlighted extensive investments in infrastructure to support growth and improve facilities for passengers and employees alike.

A New Era for United Airlines in Houston

The new North Concourse is equipped with 22 mainline aircraft gates, revitalizing facilities that were first built in 1969. Coupled with upgrades to Terminal B South, United now operates a total of 48 gates within Terminal B.

Since 2015, United Airlines has invested over $3.5 billion into improvements at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. This investment consolidates Houston's position as a vital hub, granting access to 57 destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The airline’s domestic flight schedule for 2026 will include nearly 17 million seats—its most expansive offering in over a decade. The recent renovations are part of United's broader commitment to enhance the travel experience and support the growing needs of passengers at its key hubs.
