Security Officer at Bangkok Airport Suspended After Dispute with Influencer

A conflict over drinking water leads to the suspension of a security officer at Suvarnabhumi Airport, following accusations from a Thai beauty influencer.

Encounter Over Children’s Water Turns Contentious

A female security officer at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport has been placed on suspension following a heated altercation with Thai beauty influencer Kotchawan Sajja, better known as Gamgy. The disagreement erupted over the rules regarding drinking water for children.

Details of the Incident

The confrontation took place on Friday, October 23, at around 3:16 PM during security checks at the domestic departure area. Gamgy was traveling with her family, including two young children, and was carrying two bottles of water along with a child-sized drinking flask.

Upon reaching the security checkpoint, the officer informed them that while liquids are typically restricted, exceptions could be made for items required by young children. She allowed one bottle and the children’s flask to pass through but denied the second bottle. Gamgy claimed she wanted to drink from the second bottle before disposing of it, but she alleges that the officer abruptly discarded it instead.

Accusations and Responses

As the situation escalated, Gamgy requested that the discarded bottle be returned, which led to a personal exchange. She reportedly made a remark insinuating that the officer had family issues, to which the officer reacted strongly, reportedly suggesting she was threatened in front of her children.

The security firm, Airports of Thailand Aviation Security Company Limited (AOT AVSEC), initially defended the officer's actions and confirmed she followed established procedures. However, as the story gained traction online, the airport management investigated the incident further based on CCTV footage and witness statements.

Video and Investigation Results

After the encounter, Gamgy uploaded video footage of the dispute on her social media account, capturing public attention and igniting further debate on the conduct of airport staff. The pre-recorded CCTV footage lacked audio, making it difficult to discern the exact words exchanged, which led to increased scrutiny from social media users.

Following the investigation, the airport concluded that while the influencer's remark was inappropriate, the officer's response fell short of professional standards. This led to her suspension on October 29, pending further inquiry into the incident.

Public Reaction and Future Implications

The altercation has sparked widespread discussion on social media regarding how security personnel handle confrontations with passengers. While many users supported Gamgy’s perspective, others criticized both parties' behavior during the confrontation.

Ultimately, despite the airport's acknowledgment of the officer's poor conduct in this specific situation, the existing regulations regarding liquids for children traveling are maintained. AOT AVSEC’s defense of the officer’s earlier actions, however, contradicts the airport's findings and may signify ongoing issues in employee training.

As the investigation unfolds, both Gamgy and the suspended officer await the outcomes that could affect their reputations and future careers.
