This guide explains who is likely eligible for the Capital One Venture Rewards card and its welcome bonus, plus the main card features to consider before applying.
Eligibility rules you need to know
– Six-month wait: Capital One generally requires a six-month gap between approvals. If you were approved for any Capital One card in the last six months, wait before applying for the Venture.
– 48-month bonus restriction: You cannot receive the welcome bonus for the Venture or the Venture X if you earned that same card’s bonus in the past 48 months.
– Venture family rule on downgrades: Capital One treats Venture lineup cards as a family when you try to move to a lower-fee card. If you earned the Venture X bonus (the higher-fee card) within 48 months, you will be ineligible for the Venture bonus. Earning the no-annual-fee VentureOne bonus does not block you from earning the Venture bonus (that would be moving up).
Credit score guidance
The Points Guy (TPG) recommends targeting a minimum score around 670 for a good chance at approval. Capital One says applicants should have excellent credit; approvals have occurred below 670, but if your score is very low or you have minimal history, consider a credit-building card first.
Venture Rewards — card basics
– Welcome bonus: 75,000 bonus miles after $4,000 in purchases within three months of account opening. TPG valued this bonus (November 2025) at about $1,388.
– Redemption: Miles can be redeemed as a travel statement credit or for Capital One Travel bookings at a flat 1 cent per mile, or transferred (usually 1:1) to over a dozen airline and hotel partners for potentially higher value.
– Annual fee: $95.
– Earning rates: 5 miles per dollar on hotels, rental cars and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel; 2 miles per dollar on all other purchases.
– Benefits: primary auto rental collision damage waiver, no foreign transaction fees, travel accident insurance, and up to a $120 credit toward Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee.
Bottom line
The Capital One Venture Rewards is a strong, straightforward travel card for a $95 annual fee: a large welcome bonus, simple ongoing earnings, and flexible redemption options. However, Capital One enforces tightened rules across the Venture family. Before applying, confirm you meet the timing rules (no other Capital One approval in the last six months), haven’t received a Venture or Venture X bonus in the past 48 months, and preferably have roughly a 670+ credit score. Review the card terms and current offers on Capital One’s site before submitting an application.
