Visa and Singapore Team Up for High-Value Tourism Initiatives

Visa and the Singapore Tourism Board have formed a strategic partnership to enhance tourism experiences and target high-value visitors in Singapore.

A New Collaborative Effort

Visa has announced a strategic partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) through a three-year memorandum of understanding (MoU), designed to enhance high-value tourism in the vibrant city-state. This collaboration will see the launch of Visa Destinations in Singapore come November 2026, marking the second location for the initiative in the Asia Pacific region, following its introduction in Thailand back in July.

Focus Areas of the Partnership

The MoU encompasses three primary areas of focus:

  • Developing innovative tourism experiences that appeal to discerning travelers.
  • Utilizing spending insights to identify and attract high-value visitors.
  • Executing joint marketing campaigns aimed at enhancing awareness and engagement.

As part of enhancing these visitor experiences, Visa and STB will roll out various cardholder benefits that span attractions, dining options, entertainment venues, retail shops, and tours. This initiative aims to build on existing partnerships that Visa has established with platforms such as Pelago, linked to Singapore Airlines, and the ride-hailing service Grab.

Understanding Visitor Spending Patterns

Data shows that returning visitors tend to spend significantly more—approximately four times—than those visiting for the first time. This trend underscores the importance of engaging repeat tourists. For instance, during the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix race week, spending at restaurants and entertainment venues surged by around two-thirds. Notably, expenditures between 7 PM and 11 PM rose by nearly 50%, while late-night spending from 11 PM to 5 AM experienced a remarkable doubling.

Key Markets for Tourism Growth

Visa has identified several important source markets for inbound tourism to Singapore. These include Australia, Indonesia, Mainland China, Malaysia, and the United States, all of which represent a significant number of Visa cardholders looking to explore the diverse offerings of Singapore.

By leveraging market insights, Visa and STB aim to uncover high-value opportunities in tourism and tailor targeted campaigns that align with the overall brand strategy of STB, known for its ‘Passion Made Possible’ tagline.

Vision for the Future

According to Adeline Kim, Group Country Manager for Regional Southeast Asia and Senior Vice President for Global Clients in Asia Pacific at Visa, this collaboration is centered on translating Singapore’s appeal into deeper engagement and interaction with tourists. Kim stated, “Our partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board is about converting that appeal into deeper engagement.”

Melissa Ow, Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board, reflected on the goals of this partnership as well. She declared, “Through this collaboration, we aim to create more opportunities for our tourism businesses and advance STB’s Tourism 2040 priorities through impactful, high-quality tourism growth.”

This partnership is expected to play a significant role in meeting stipulations of STB’s Tourism 2040 framework, which focuses on sustainable growth and enhancing the overall visitor experience in Singapore.
