Travel Rinse Repeat

Singapore Airlines Unveils Major $1.5 Billion Upgrade Plan

Singapore Airlines is set to enhance its long-haul service with a significant investment focused on passenger comfort and innovative features.

Singapore Airlines, recently recognized as the world's leading airline by Skytrax in 2026, is embarking on an ambitious journey to elevate its travel experience. The airline is allocating over S$2 billion (approximately $1.5 billion) to revamp its long-haul service across all classes, aiming to set new standards of comfort and personalization.

Enhancements Across the Board

Beginning in late 2027, travelers can look forward to revamped cabins on select Boeing and Airbus aircraft, notably the future Boeing 777-9s slated for delivery that year. These upcoming jets will showcase a completely redesigned cabin experience, which focuses on maximizing both comfort and luxury.

According to Ong Wah Li, Singapore Airlines' vice president of product experience, the goal is to “redefine long-haul travel” by creating journeys that feel more intuitive and tailored to passengers' needs.

Economy and Premium Economy Upgrades

Passengers will benefit from newly designed economy seats that promise enhanced knee and shin clearance, as well as increased legroom ranging from 31 to 32 inches. The seats will offer up to six inches of recline, along with four-way adjustable headrests for added comfort.

Additionally, each economy seat will include practical features such as a cupholder and coat hook, alongside roomy under-monitor seatback pockets. This will allow travelers to enjoy their beverages without encumbering the tray table.

Premium economy, which has been co-designed by Factorydesign, will see an elevation from 38 inches of legroom to an impressive 40 inches, with a recline improvement from 8 inches to 9 inches. This class will also incorporate storage enhancements like a dedicated water bottle holder and more under-armrest space.

Revamped Business Class Experience

For business class, an exciting new design is on the way, developed in collaboration with Designworks, a part of the BMW Group. Passengers can expect an inviting color palette, featuring gray complemented by accents in yellow, silver, and blue-black, differentiating itself from trends leaning towards traditional styles.

Privacy is a noteworthy addition, with central seats set in a 1-2-1 arrangement featuring electronically adjustable dividers, creating a more secluded environment for travelers. Aligning with passenger feedback from a survey of 5,000 fliers, the footwell has been repositioned to the center, allowing for better legroom and comfort.

Luxury Redefined in First Class

First-class accommodations are enhanced significantly, now offering suites that can function as separate living areas or combine into one expansive unit featuring a luxurious two-seater sofa. Notably, the full-flat double bed, measuring 60 inches wide by 80 inches long, is being touted as the largest in business aviation.

Additional touches include luxurious bedding enhancements from the premium brand Paradies, along with a table that doubles as a workspace, which features a wireless charging station. Passengers will also have access to personal wardrobes and ample storage.

Cutting-Edge In-Flight Entertainment

All classes, including economy and first class, will be equipped with the new KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system, offering high-resolution 4K touchscreens, spatial audio capabilities, and Bluetooth pairing. The system is designed to keep passengers engaged with flight maps and wellness planners, all while enjoying a diverse selection of films and shows.

Singapore Airlines is not just resting on its esteemed reputation; it is committed to continuous innovation in the aviation sector. Senior vice president of customer experience, Yeoh Phee Teik, emphasized the airline's dedication to maintaining its leadership position by constantly enhancing the overall customer experience.
