New Pat-Down Security Measures at Don Mueang Airport Starting November

Don Mueang International Airport will implement pat-down searches for better security, beginning November 1.

Travelers flying through Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok should be prepared for some changes in the security screening process. Starting November 1, the airport will introduce pat-down checks at screening points.

Enhanced Security Screening

In a recent announcement, the airport revealed that handheld metal detectors will be replaced by manual pat-down searches. Upon arrival at a checkpoint, passengers will still first go through a walk-through metal detector or body scanner. If additional checks are deemed necessary, security personnel will then conduct the pat-down search.

Efficiency and Compliance

The airport aims to improve both security efficiency and compliance with new requirements set forth by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). While the goal is to enhance aviation security, passengers may face longer wait times, particularly during busy travel periods.

Preparation is Key

To minimize delays, passengers are encouraged to remove any metal items and personal belongings before approaching the security checkpoint. It is also important for travelers to notify security personnel of any physical conditions that could affect the screening process, such as injuries, implanted devices, or pregnancy.

All passengers should adhere to the instructions given by security officers at the airport and plan their arrival time accordingly to avoid missing flights.

Respectful and Professional Procedures

While the announcement indicated that the pat-downs would be conducted with consideration for the dignity and rights of passengers, specific details on the exact procedures remain unclear. However, a video shared by the airport illustrates that the screenings will be carried out by officers of the same gender as the passenger undergoing the search, ensuring a level of comfort during the process.

Currently, Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok's other major international airport, has not made any announcements regarding similar screening procedure changes.
