In a significant step towards eco-friendly public transportation, Hanoi's public transport operator, Transerco, has launched 53 new VinFast electric buses across four routes on October 5 and 6, 2026. This initiative marks a crucial move in the city's commitment to transitioning its public bus fleet to electric and green energy by 2030.
New Buses Roll Out
The initial deployment included 28 VinFast Green Bus vehicles introduced on routes 22A and 22B. Route 22A connects Gia Lam Bus Station with Kien Hung Urban Area, while route 22B services the Giap Bat Bus Station to Do Nghia. These buses replace older diesel models, enhancing the sustainability of public transport in Hanoi.
On October 6, Transerco's South Hanoi Passenger Transport Enterprise added 25 VinFast EB8 electric buses to routes 30 and 50. Route 30 links My Dinh Bus Station with Gamuda Urban Area, and route 50 operates between Long Bien and An Lac Urban Area in Hoai Duc.
Features and Accessibility
All new electric buses have a capacity of 60 passengers and are designed with low floors for easy access, including features that assist passengers with disabilities. Each vehicle sports the green Hanoibus livery adorned with symbols of the peace dove and Khue Van Cac, the iconic structure linked to Hanoi’s Temple of Literature.
Supporting a Sustainable Future
The introduction of these 53 VinFast vehicles supports Hanoi’s broader municipal fleet transition program, established in May 2025, which aims to replace all diesel and petrol buses by 2030. This initiative also aims to increase the proportion of green vehicles in Transerco’s fleet to over 51% by the end of 2026.
Over the past few years, Hanoi has been expanding its electric bus infrastructure, boasting around 2,000 electric buses in operation, including those run by VinFast's subsidiary, VinBus. By the end of 2025, these buses were reported to have collectively traveled about 73 million kilometers.
Future Plans
Hanoi’s strategy for the electric bus fleet aligns with Vietnam's national target under the 2050 plan for a greener transport sector. However, Hanoi aims to reach this goal two decades ahead of the national timeline. Electric bus services began operating in Hanoi in December 2021, and reports indicate that nearly 100 million passengers have utilized these services over three years.
Transerco's commitment to sustainability and innovative transport solutions signifies a significant evolution in urban mobility, aiming for a clean and energy-efficient transport system for the future.
