American Airlines is offering an AAdvantage Pass for $5,000 that grants immediate AAdvantage Gold status, 100,000 bonus AAdvantage miles and 15,000 Loyalty Points.
What you get:
– Instant AAdvantage Gold status: priority check-in and boarding, 40% mileage bonus on flights, a free checked bag, complimentary upgrades on many domestic flights, and access to Preferred or Main Cabin Extra seats starting 24 hours before departure.
– 100,000 AAdvantage bonus miles.
– 15,000 Loyalty Points toward elite requalification.
– Potential Oneworld Ruby benefits and eligibility for Alaska Airlines upgrades depending on partnerships and coding.
Value and considerations:
– TPG’s December 2025 valuation estimates the 100,000 miles at about $1,550.
– At $5,000, buyers should decide whether the miles, immediate Gold perks and 15,000 Loyalty Points justify the cost.
– The 15,000 Loyalty Points are well below the 40,000 Loyalty Points commonly required to reach Platinum, so the pass won’t move you to higher elite tiers beyond Gold on its own.
Earning additional miles and points:
– If the pass charges as an American Airlines transaction, it could qualify for bonus earnings on co‑brand or other cards that award extra miles for AA purchases.
– Example: the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® pays 4x AAdvantage miles on eligible American Airlines purchases — on a $5,000 pass that could be roughly 20,000 extra miles plus 5,000 Loyalty Points.
– The Citi® / AAdvantage® Globe™ Mastercard® currently has a new-card offer (90,000 miles after $5,000 spend for new cardholders) and awards 3x on AA purchases, which on the pass would be about 15,000 miles and 5,000 Loyalty Points. Globe also offers a Flight Streak bonus of 5,000 Loyalty Points after four eligible AA flights (up to three times per year).
Who might consider buying it:
– Frequent American Airlines flyers who place high value on immediate Gold benefits and who can ensure the purchase codes as an AA transaction to capture extra card bonuses.
– Travelers already very close to higher tiers may find the 15,000 Loyalty Points insufficient to change their requalification strategy.
– For many customers, $5,000 will be a steep price unless they can both use the Gold perks extensively and stack additional miles/Loyalty Points via credit card earnings or other promotions.
Bottom line:
The AAdvantage Pass is a fast route to Gold status, a large mileage boost and meaningful Loyalty Points, but it won’t replace the Loyalty Points needed for Platinum or higher tiers by itself. If the pass codes as an American Airlines purchase, pairing it with the right credit card can materially improve its value — still, buyers should weigh the $5,000 cost against how much they will actually use the status, miles and incremental Loyalty Points.
