Frontier Airlines will add four new routes this spring, stepping into markets where Spirit Airlines has reduced service as it reorganizes under a second Chapter 11 filing. Frontier says the schedule changes respond to openings created by Spirit’s network contraction.
New routes and start dates:
– DFW–EWR: daily service begins May 5
– DFW–SNA: four times weekly begins May 21
– IAD–FLL: daily service begins May 21
– LAS–BNA: four times weekly begins June 11
Two of the routes, DFW–EWR and LAS–BNA, are currently on Spirit’s schedule. Cirium tracking shows Spirit plans to cut year‑round LAS–BNA to seasonal service this summer. Frontier CEO James Dempsey said the carrier is already seeing gains in Las Vegas after Spirit substantially pared back its operation there. Cirium data show Frontier seats at LAS rising about 6 percent in Q1 versus 2025, while Spirit seats fell roughly 68 percent.
Spirit is planning to emerge from restructuring considerably smaller, reportedly shedding nearly two thirds of its fleet and focusing on four core markets: Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and the New York City area. Frontier had pursued a combination with Spirit in earlier years; JetBlue outbid Frontier in 2022, and a 2025 merger proposal was not accepted.
The new routes arrive as Frontier broadens its product and loyalty offerings. The Denver‑based low‑cost carrier has rolled out premium options ranging from first class to UpFront Plus extra‑legroom seats with blocked middle seats, and it has added more benefits for Frontier Miles elites. Dempsey said customer reaction to the premium investments has been phenomenally positive, but he acknowledged the airline’s loyalty program remains immature and needs more investment, including enhancements to a cobranded credit card.
On connectivity, Frontier plans to equip aircraft with inflight Wi‑Fi in 2027 and has said it will name a connectivity supplier later this year, calling onboard internet service essential to stay competitive in travelers’ choice sets.
